Kristen and I pride ourselves in motivating the pest control industry to do a better job, one technician at a time. Last month, Kristen spoke for two hours in Reno, NV about the forensics of cockroach control and Integrated Pest Management and I spoke about bees, wasps and honey bee colony collapse in Alberta, Canada.
We also try to constantly better ourselves by attending professional meetings. One of our areas of interest is “green” pesticides, so we attended the Biological Products Industry Alliance (BPIA) meeting in San Diego, CA. This is a rapidly growing segment of industry and that is why this 2-day meeting was attended by manufacturers from all over the world. Presentation topics covered biostimulants, biological pesticides, and biological controls. Biological pesticides are made of naturally derived active ingredients, biological controls are pest specific parasites or diseases and biostimulants consist of non-pesticidal naturally-derived materials that improve plant health.
Our next professional meetings will be the joint National Conference on Urban Entomology and the National Imported Fire Ant Conference in May. There is so much to learn at these meetings and we always look forward to seeing our colleagues and friends. Be sure to follow up with our June blog to see what we learned!
